LenSx® Offers Greater Precision in Laser Surgery

Drs. Gordon G. Wong and Wildon C. Wong use the LenSx® laser at Wink Optometry & Eyewear in Del Mar, CA, for enhanced precision and accuracy during cataract surgery and refractive procedures. This cutting edge technology allows us to customize treatment plans to meet each of our patients’ individual needs and achieve the best possible outcomes. In addition to greater precision, LenSx® is bladeless and can significantly reduce the risk of complications, allowing for a faster healing and recovery process. The LenSx® system
LenSx® uses advanced technology to help patients achieve far better eyesight than they can with just glasses or contacts.

LenSx® Technology

The LenSx® laser uses advanced technology and a 3D surgical display to create personalized treatment with better precision and accuracy than traditional surgical methods. While we primarily use LenSx® in cataract surgery, we can also use it for general refraction or astigmatism correction.

LenSx® greatly reduces your risk of complications and ensures greater accuracy during the procedure because the system is guided by computer technology.

With the 3D display, your doctor can view the intricate details of your eye and create more exact incisions. LenSx® allows them to view angles of the eye that are not visible during a standard surgical procedure.

What to Expect During the Procedure

After your eyes are numbed with anesthetic drops, the LenSx® laser is placed over the eye, conforming to the unique shape and contours. The laser sends real-time, 3D images of your eye to the computer for our doctors to view in detail. Using this intricate image, they can determine the optimal placement location for the incision.

Once optimal placement is determined, the laser will make a small incision in the cornea. For cataract surgery, the laser then softens the lens, allowing it to be broken into smaller pieces. Your doctor will then use suction to remove the fragmented lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).

To correct astigmatism or refractive errors, the laser creates a small flap in the cornea. The underlying tissue can then be reshaped to correct astigmatism and improve visual acuity. Once the reshaping process is complete, the flap is put back in place.

The incision or flap in the cornea will heal itself in just a day or two without requiring sutures or bandages. Recovery is comparable to that of other laser surgeries, such as LASIK. You should notice immediate improvements in your vision, though it can take several days to completely stabilize.

What are the Benefits of LenSx® Over Other Treatments?

LenSx® greatly reduces your risk of complications and ensures greater accuracy during the procedure because the system is guided by computer technology, which means less room for human error. The bladeless system is more accurate than traditional surgical methods and uses smaller incisions, which can heal faster than incisions created with surgical blades.
